After looking through a couple of older editions of this book that we have here at work, I decided to purchase this new version. I am quite disappointed in the quality of content as compared to the older books. Just in the first couple chapters, I've found a number of spelling and grammar errors. The author also jumps around with his examples from various Linux distributions without explaining the differences. I try to follow along but often cannot. The formatting of the review questions at the end of each chapter is also inconsistent. Sometimes the answers are indicated by a letter, sometimes by a number. Italics show up for no apparent reasonAs someone coming from a Windows background and learning Linux from the ground up, this book is leaving me more confused than ever.
This book is riddled with grammatical errors, mismatching pictures, and typos so atrocious they actually make incorrect statements. The formatting is inconsistent. The practice tests at the end actually give wrong answers. That said, I would never recommend this book to anybody trying to learn Linux. You would have to Google every single thing you read. That said, as somebody with some Linux experience, this book was an *okay* study guide. Since I have a couple years experience, I was able to sift through the blatantly incorrect typo statements. However, I am almost positive there are better books to buy.Do NOT support these lower quality, zero editing books. I feel for the author - they seem to care about the subject, and kudos for writing a book - but the practice tests giving wrong information is borderline malicious. If they lower the price to $5, consider picking it up.This seems to be the trend with Packt books. A few good reviews, presumably from friends and family (notice they are not verified purchasers????), yet the book lacks even a single editorial read-through. This is the last Packt book I will ever buy.
The author did good, brief, and view of examples for all the processes. This the best I have ever seen for studying for an exam.
Book is more of just a list of commands not set up as a teaching course with objectives
After going through this book, I've gained more appreciation for Linux.Particularly in dealing with multiboot environments, working with the various boot loaders.Once I started going through the chapters, I found them to cover the current Linux+ exams (LX0-103 & LX0104).This in turn increased my confidence with the various Linux distributions which is ideal for me in my exam preparations. I would highly recommend this book for system admins and network admins looking to get up to speed in Linux and for those newbies like myself preparing for the CompTIA Linux+ certification.
Very useful. I recommend it to anyone who plans to sit the LX0-103 and LX0-104 exams
