So I've purchased manuals for all of the vehicles I've owned over time. I have to say I was pretty disappointed when I searched through to see how the front wheel bearings are supposed to be removed and reinstalled, and came to a page where it told me that I need to take my car to a mechanic. I have not been working on cars my whole life so I don't know everything and would like to think books like these would be helpful. These books are useless if you want to do any advanced work that the manual deems as too 'professional' for someone like me to do.
I actually get better information by just using the internet, especially YouTube.There is some useful information, but not a lot.I was using it to do a flush, thermostat and radiator hose change; also changing the spark plugs (a major job on a V6).Wasn't much help.Watched a few YouTube videos and got much better idea of what to do.
I have purchased Haynes or Chilton for nearly every vehicle I have ever owned and found them useful. Unfortunately no so this time. For the 2002-2006 Camry the detail I needed is not included and the images generally lack clarity.
Anytime I buy a car one of the first purchases I make is a Haynes Manual and this is the first time I have been disappointed. I bought a 2006 Solara Convertible, absolutely nothing applies to the Solara except for some of the engine portions, and google and you tube has plenty of that. Not that the information that is in there is bad, they just tried to make it too broad and completely failed at covering anything for the Solara.
It paid for itself the very first time that I used it. Yes, I am already a mechanic, but that is only a license to learn the RIGHT way to make a repair.

I'm unimpressed. Very, very basic book. Tries to cover too much, so ends up shortchanging the shade tree mechanic in describing the basics. I bought it because I was replacing the brake rotors on a 2004 Avalon. The basic description was there, but nothing about how to remove a rotor that's been on for 115,000 miles. Turns out Toyota makes a handy little threaded hole designed to pop the rotor off with little effort. Not a mention in the book. I'm trying to replace the O2 sensors and again, very brief description, no visuals! YouTube has a lot more information with better visuals.
Being an Avalon owner, I'm pretty disappointed. Nothing about a 3.5 engine!!!
