This is my first exposure to Nancy Curteman’s Lysi Weston series, and I picked it up because of its San Francisco connection. Boy, if you want to know about San Francisco, read this book – it’s as good as a guide book - better! But take notes as you go.As a crime / detective story, the book grabs you immediately, right from the first chapter – there are many chapters, over 50, and all short and punchy. Nancy weaves a web of distinct characters in the first few chapters, from Lysi and Grace, to Jordan the ADA, all well-suited and all well drawn, and we follow them through the nicely-paced story with nary a chance to take a breath.If I have any complaint, it is that, while the author skewers several men in the story, she treats the women far more sympathetically. I think most of her readers might applaud this.The bad guys were scary and original - they were not just two-dimensional and, for the most part, showed some redeeming features.So – if you like this genre, prepare to follow and enjoy the twists and turns of the author's journey through San Francisco and the twists and turns of the plot in ‘Murder Lurks in the Fog’.All the way to the book's surprising ending.
I could not put the book down! Of course, ideally you have read all of Nancy Curteman's books since this is a continuation of Lysi's travels, but you can read it on it's own merit! It is so detailed and intriguing. It has romance and mystery and it takes you to San Francisco! I grew up 40 miles south of San Francisco and visited my aunt, who lived in Haight-Ashbury, most of my life. It was so fun to not only read, but picture myself right there in the book.
Another great Lysi read that can be enjoyed as the most recent in the series or as a stand-alone. What I love about Nancy Curteman's mysteries are the settings. This one is in San Francisco, and though I have gone there many times, I was introduced to areas of the city I didn't know about! Curteman clearly does her research and writes about places she knows in depth, and enjoys. As with all the Lysi Weston mysteries, the writing is crisp. The pace is quick; the story moves along rapidly, but doesn't give much away. A very satisfying, highly recommended read.
This is my 4th Curteman novel, and I enjoyed it very much. With a Curteman novel, you get a fun murder mystery mixed with an interesting travel guide. She has a knack for catching the feel of the setting of the novel. Lysi is a marvelous character in all of these novels, and it's an easy, relaxing, enjoyable read. It was a sweet trip to San Francisco.
Another enjoyable mystery set in our own backyard of San Francisco. Nancy's familiarity with The City and it history really come through. The mystery is well paced, the characters believable and the action nicely described. I look forward to the next installment.
Another excellent by Nancy Curteman. Liked it all so can't say what I liked most/least.
