I have not used this yet, but I have an awesome drum set/timpani instructor whorecommended that I use this one. He learned from this one.The person who complained that it isn't modern. Where in the worldare they coming from? I am looking for a trusted through the yearsinstructional booklet and this is the one. Yes, it came out circa 1948.I walked into a very modern music store today and guess what theyhad in stock for timpani instruction, This book. The one who wrotethis instruction booklet played timpani in the N.Y. Philharmonicorchestra for many years. Timpani has been around for manymany years and so has this tried and true book. It's a classic.
This goes in to great detail on timpani technique. I haven't played much timpani so I am sure this book will help me a lot once I use it.
out of date - nothing "modern" about it. that's why i sent it back the same day it arrived. forget it.
This book is a great addition to any percussionists repertoire. It breaks down all aspects of timpani technique and is very easy to understand. It is great for a beginning percussionist as well as the advanced percussionist who wishes to expand their knowledge of the orchestral timpani.
The book was supposed to be new, but the cover was wrinkled and cracked and the book definitely looked used. Super disappointed because it is a gift and I don't have time to return it.
