I cannot even coherently express how awesome this encyclopedia is. And for the price as well. I was fattening up our homeschooling library and this was one that came with great reviews so I went for it. I'm so glad I did. It's enjoyed by the entire family. Young and old.
As a home schooling parent these days, I wonder what the key paper books to buy might be, as opposed to just counting on the internet for all our reference.But this book has such an impressive quantity of uniformly high quality illustrations that it's a must-have.Lots of these sorts of books are cheaply edited and wind up on the bargain table at your local bookstore, along with all the other large-format picture books that grandparents give grandkids. Those books keep the kids entertained for a day. You know the type of book I mean.This book, however, is an impressive, extensive and engaging work.It's written simply in a factual, scientific tone for a smart middle schooler, high schooler or adult. It's still very useful for younger kids when accompanied by some parental explanation. My five year old loves the illustrations. They are great tools for conversational science lessons.
Actully, I hate this book. Not that it's not an amazing book, because it is but because my 6 year old is OBSESSED with it. He drags the damn thing everywhere! and wants me to read it EVERY. DAMN. DAY!
This book is INCREDIBLE! My son is 6 and has been obsessed with this book for the past 2 years. The huge depth of information contained in this book is impressive, but perhaps more amazing is its ability to tersely hit huge concepts in a quick and concise manner. From the geological history of the earth to the structure of atoms, this book covers major scientific ideas in 1 or 2 pages with excellent illustrations and brief, easy to understand descriptions. My son now comprehends scientific concepts that I didn't learn until high school or college. Kudos to the editors, this book is the real deal. Thank you!
The pictures in this book are gorgeous . There's a wealth of information in here as well . You could Google and search Wikipedia but, you will be missing the experience books like this offer. It helps to pique curiosity . For example when reading a section on average life expectancies in each area of the world , I became curious of the how and why and branched out searching elsewhere for more information. If I had never saw that page in this book perhaps that curiosity would have never crossed my mind. My three year old loves looking at this book with me , loving the images and hearing me explain what we are learning about on each page. I would recommend this book to anybody that had a love of learning or is simply curious.
My son spilled some juice on a science book he loved while proudly bringing me some juice. I decided to order him this book as a surprise and my 8 year old is completely amazed by it! He reads most of it independently, but once I help with a word I'm hooked too. So many interesting facts about a variety of subjects. I'm happy to learn from it too! Worth every cent.
OMG MY GRANDCHILDREN AS WELL AS ME, WERE VERY EXCITED AND NOW THEY READ ALONG WITH ME 1 HOUR EVERYDAY. MUST ORDER TO SEE FOR YOURSELVES, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED ', AS A MATTER OF FACT MAKES FOR GOOD FAMILY TIME DAILY, AFTER THEIR HOMEWORK IS DONE.
Our favorite nonfiction book in the house. Goes great with the publisher's "Space!" book. I can't say enough good things about it. I looked for a long time to find a science book that had the right balance of breadth and depth of coverage along with amazing visuals. This is the one. Our kids take this on every road trip. We'll probably need to buy a new one after a year and half of constant use. It's a well made book, but even a well made book can't put up with this much attention.
We bought this for my 8 years old son. We keep this book in our car and whenever we go out this keep him busy.Instead of paying game in the car, we decided to give him his book. It works. lol He loves to learn different things and tell us. :)
