The book starts with Sebastian's childhood letters to Santa, detailing the breakdown of his parents' marriage. They serve to show us that the gruff man we are about to meet was once a sweet little boy, however, I found them an unnecessary gimmick. Flash forward 24 years to Geneva, Switzerland, where our narrator, Vera Sava, has just lost her job. Desperate, and under the threat of deportation to her native Albania, Vera takes a housekeeping position at the Horn estate, even though she is a fully trained doctor. Vera's first encounter with Sebastian Horn, the master of the house, is anything but idyllic, but we all know they're going to end up together! The question is, how? She'll undoubtedly have some competition along the way from the rest of the young female staff and numerous wealthy socialites. But what secret is Vera hiding from her past that has led her to where she is now? And when will it catch up with her?This book is a described as a contemporary romance, but it should be labelled as an erotic romance, and the cover should be changed to reflect this genre. There is not much to the story, which mostly consists of graphic sex scenes. My major complaints: I would have liked to have seen more of Sebastian's high flying business dealings and less of Vera's domestic dramas; there are way too many misunderstandings and incidences of lack of communication between Vera and Sebastian; Vera is a trained doctor but can't even work out what's causing her illness; French words are not in italics which can lead to some confusion (e.g., French "diner" means "dinner" but looks like a spelling error); there are numerous editing errors, mostly incorrect word usage not picked up by spell-check; the title doesn't come into the story until 80% of the way through the book, then it is repeated four more times; the story ends on a massive cliffhanger, leaving a plethora of loose ends.Warnings: coarse language, prescription drug abuse, numerous graphic sex scenes (including BDSM, voyeurism, and even bestiality in a dream sequence), ends on a cliffhanger.Full blog post: [...]

This story is a continuing one. It has a blunt ending that is not satisfying. I dislike manipulation of a writer. If the writing and story is good then there is no reason for misleading the readers.Out of the few reviews posted ,no one mentioned that the story is continued. I find that odd.

This book is a love story about two incredibly dysfunctional characters. This isn’t the my first book by this author and indeed, I’m more familiar with her slow burn novels. This isn’t one of them. The writing itself is interesting and engaging, but the story moves incredibly slowly. The conflict is realistically repetitive, which is even more frustrating to read over and over within a few hours than it is in real life. My peeve is that after hours and hours of “will she/won’t she,” we end in a cliff hanger??? I was over the secret love, Jane Eyre-vibe by the halfway point of this book. Honestly, I don’t see why this book needs a sequel. I don’t see why this story couldn’t have been completed in Book 1. Don’t get me wrong, I’m going to read the next book to find out the conclusion, after all, I’ve invested a few hours in reading this. I’m however glad that this was not my introduction to this author, if not I might not have bothered with the other books in the series because the pace of this book made me want to pull my hair out. I highly recommend and prefer the Hard To Love series over this and would check those books out first to fall in love with this author.

This ebook was gifted to me by the author in exchange for an honest review!! I have just finished reading the book and I must say that only three words come to mind...OH MY GOODNESS!!! I am a kindergarten teacher and have had to space my reading times out between riding lesson plans, grading papers, and cutting out things that I have laminated… But during those times that I have been able to sit down and read I have not been able to put this book down!!! For me the author grabbed my attention from page 1 and kept it all the way through to the end! I guess I'm a sucker for heartbreaking love stories... With this book, he author delivers drama, suspense, and hot, HOT PASSION!Vera and Sebastian have a love story that so many of us wish that we had! The author has given them both such horrific paths end tragic losses... That as their love story unfolds and you see their hearts and souls begin to heal and knit back together , that your own spirit begins to breathe a sigh of relief end rejoice right along with them! You will laugh with this book , cry with this book, and even find yourself holding your breath a th as you read through certain passages. I have found a million different things that have made me to fall in love with this author and the new characters that she err has so beautifully painted and brought to life for me!! I absolutely can not wait for the next installment of the Horn Saga! This is a definite must read book!!! Thanks P. Evangelical! 💕

Oh wow so much angst in this book. It had a fifty shades feel to it but without all the crazy bdsm parts to it. I can’t say that I absolutely loved the heroine, I liked that she was intelligent and educated, but at times she seemed weak which I didn’t like. It was going really good till the end. Her actions at the end seemed so completely idiotic that I couldn’t reconcile her previously shown intelligence with the decisions she made. I understand that the author needed a cliffhanger, but the way she went about creating it conflicted with the heroine’s character.Regardless, I’m on to book2 because I loved Sebastian and i absolutely need to know how this story ends.
