Love to study this bible. I learn a lot by it. A must for who want to have a real relationship with Jesus... a real blessing. THANK YOU Maxwell.
I'm a pastor and was interested in getting this Bible when it became available to me for review. I have mixed feelings about it and would recommend it only as a supplemental resource but not a person's primary study Bible.As for the NKJV translation, I find it very readable and accurate. I am generally of the opinion that the best translation is whichever one a person will read, within reason - i.e., avoid sect translations such as those from the Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses, avoid odd translations such as the anti-alcohol "Purified Translation", and stick with translations that are widely used by Bible-believing Christians churches. This one is a fine choice.This Bible has a lot of leadership resources peppered throughout its pages, but that's really my main beef with this Bible. Nearly every bit of the commentary contained is about leadership, leaving very little attention given to the general background and content of the text. You get, for example, 2/3 of page on introductory info on the Gospel of John. That's not much, and then all of the other commentary is about leadership. This singular focus presents the serious risks of ignoring super-important teachings of Scripture if they don't relate directly to leadership and/or importing leadership lessons into texts where they aren't really the focus. Maxwell's notes on the Tower of Babel in Genesis 11, for example, are interesting: "The Law of the Big Mo: The Tower of Babel - Momentum is a leader's best friend. Unity of vision, language, and effort among the people of Babel provided tremendous momentum. Unfortunately, they used the Big Mo to go their own direction. As a result, God halted their momentum by confusing their language and scattering them to the four winds." There is lot to question here: what does momentum have to do with the story? Where does God say momentum is a leader's best friend? Was the misuse of Big Mo really the problem? Did God act in order to halt their Big Mo or to do something more than that?Bottom line: I would only recommend this Bible as a supplemental resource about leadership but not as a general study bible. It simply ignores far too much important stuff that isn't about leadership. I would also only recommend it to mature students of Scripture who would readily recognize places where the commentary notes miss the real point in its pursuit of finding leadership in every passage. Not a terrible resource, but a limited one that won't replace a true study Bible.

I have had a copy of THE MAXWELL LEADERSHIP BIBLE since 2005,which is why I was very interested in reviewing the THIRD EDITION of the New King James Version of the Bible with notes by the famous author / speaker John C Maxwell. Two questions I am asking myself:Why would anyone purchase a John C Maxwell Bible?Is it necessary to get the newer edition if you have an older one?Superficially, the newer copy has a great book cover but the Bible itself is red with writing on the sleeve identifying it as THE MAXWELL LEADERSHIP BIBLE - John C Maxwell NKJV. The print is bolder much easier to read. The older version I have , copyright 2002, has 1,616 pages whereas the newer one has 1,629. But we are looking for the added value as is provided by John C Maxwell himself so let's now look at content.First I see an exert from the writings of Kevin A. Myers "What On Earth Is God Doing? Pretty much an overview of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation - confirming that there is nothing happening today that is a surprise to God.As I moved forward into the Bible itself, beginning with the beginning I noticed how information is presented is different but it is still the same information. Both Bibles present Mr. Maxwell's teachings on leadership laws, qualities. and issues as well as Profiles in leadership.But with the newer edition there is more! For years, perhaps decades, John C Maxwell has shared his knowledge of leadership from a biblical perspective through speeches, classes and book. Anyone who has ever read the Bible knows that every time you read it you learn something- THE MAXWELL LEADERSHIP BIBLE contains the somethings Mr. Maxwell has learned over the years some of which you will find in greater detail in his books.Why would anyone purchase THE MAXWELL LEADERSHIP BIBLE? Because Christians have to distinguish themselves from worldly leadership and the only way to do this is by studying God's words. By having leadership principles and their modern day applications pointed out being a God pleaser and not a man pleaser is that much easier.Is it necessary to get the newer edition if you have an older one? I would say YES, if you don't have all of John C Maxwell's leadership books. NO, if you have and have read all of John C Maxwell's leadership books.
